What Technologies?
A few preliminary comments on software technology and sophistication: first, at the risk of appearing to be some kind of computing geezer...(that's right, young whippersnappers, in my day...), commercially available operating systems were routinely better designed and far more robust thirty years ago than they are now; second, incrementally attempting to turn a single-user, non-multiprogramming operating system into a reliable, real-time capable, secure, robust computing platform is not a task for marketing focus groups; and third, most academic computing programs today fail to recognize that operating systems software has been in a sort of Dark Ages since the ascendancy of the personal computer in the mid-1980s.
